Giants’ Eli Manning Has ‘Stress Reaction’

Just when you think things cannot get any worse for the NewYork Giants, reality rears its ugly head and it does.

According to ESPN,a recent MRI on Eli Manning‘s footrevealed what’s being called a “stress reaction“on his cuboid bone…a new injury that makes Manning susceptible to a stressfracture that would almost certainly end his 2009 season.

The report went on to state that Easy E has been seenfavoring the foot as recently as Thursday night, but added that Giants’officials are not surprised and were well aware that his plantar fasciitiscould lead to a stress reaction.

In an effort to prevent a stress fracture, Big Blue’s medicalstaff has been feverishly treating Manning, trying to keep him off his feet asmuch as possible and using a bone stimulator on the affected area.

Should Manning eventually suffer a stress fracture, it’slikely that David Carr would step inas New York’s starting quarterback.

Repost…OK… my long awaited assessment… in 3 parts.Defense… the secondary is one player away from being solid. KP returns… Ross gets well… we have enough CBs… need one safety. Very “do-able”.LBs… a lot of dust in the air. Several players on the roster who have to shake out or get out. I would still add 1 to the mix… perhaps even a high pick or a top FA. Very “do able” as well.DL… an enigma. Amazingly… and suddenly… weak up the middle. Yet there appears to be talent there. Not worried about the DEs… but we need a DT. May not be “do able”… but could be.Summary… if we devote the bulk of the draft and FAs to the D then it can be fixed.

Offense… WRs… set… no issues. TE… set… no issues. QB… Eli is solid. OK, not a HOFer, but fine.RBs… another enigma. Injuries are playing a part, but Jacobs seems to have lost it. However we really can’t do much about it. There’s no way to upgrade here… or even determine if we need to. Wait till next year.OL… a mess. Never have so many done so little for so few. It needs an injection of youth and fire. I’d add 2 to the mix. If we wait till day-2 then it’s OG and or C. Those positions can be addressed in mid-rounds. FA is an unknown.Summary… draft a tough OG type and see what happens.

The rest…Special Teams… the kickoff squad is terrible. Tynes can’t bang them deep… and we can’t cover. I’m guessing that we need a KO specialist, a new gunner, and a new ST coach. This is all possible with little or no cost in picks.Punter… Feagles ??? Is this it ??? We should use the next few games… which we’ve turned into exhibitions… to find out if he still has it. The one thing that really bothers me is that he’s out of shape. That means he’s packed it in … mentally. If he’s done then we need to replace him. It’s cheap… but we have to act.Kicker… sorry folks, but Tynes isn’t bad. If you look objectively at the rest then he’s at least middle-of-the-pack.

So… to sum it all up …A safety, a LB, a DT, and OG, a KO specialist, a KO gunner… 2nd tier needs… another DT, a versatile OL, a RB.This is not an insurmountable task. However I also believe we need new coaching. Maybe it’s 2 new coordinators… or a top-down housecleaning… but we need a change there. We also need to do some conract killing. The team has an attitude problem. They’re not hungry… not fired up… not ‘with the program’. The bad apples have to go… the fat, out-of-shape guys… the angry guys… the satisfied guys… the ones with other career aims… etc etc. They kill a team, and have to be culled. Probably around 10 players…

Warm up the Carr!Don’t get me wrong, I think Eli gives us the best chance to win. But with Carr, doesn’t that almost force a change in offensive philosophy? A quarterback that can move around, etc.Maybe in a perfect scenario Carr comes in for a few weeks, they discover new areas of the offense, Eli comes back and they win.Ha, who am I kidding?

I can’t believe I’m going to say this as someone who bleeds Blue but they need to shut Eli down. We MIGHT make the playoffs. We DONT have a SB worthy team this season. Shut Eli down and get him healthy because in the NFL if your starting QB isn’t right your team isn’t either. This is a QB driven league. Our season was over when we dropped the game to Denver last week. Let Carr take over and lets get a draft pick in the teens and let Eli heal up.
